The Importance of Foreground in Landscape Photography

Image result for The Importance of Foreground in Landscape PhotographyIf you are into landscape photography, you likely use a wide angle lens for most of your shots, and when you work with that range of focal lengths, there are special considerations to be aware of. This great video talks about the importance of using foreground in your landscape compositions and how it can lead to better photos.

Coming to you from Mike Perea Photography, this helpful video follows him as he discusses the importance of using foreground elements in landscape compositions. When you’re using a wide angle lens, everything tends to get visually pushed away, and without a foreground element to grab the viewer’s eye and lead it deeper into the photo, even grand views can look rather flat and devoid of visual interest. It doesn’t take much to create a compelling foreground element either; notice how Perea chooses a small cactus plant. You’ll often see a rock or a small creek or path that leads toward the main subject used as well. Check out the video above for the full rundown.
