2017 Land Rover Discovery to be launched in October

Land Rover is planning to launch the 2017 Discovery in India in October. It will be one of the 10 Jaguar and Land Rover cars to be launched here, this year.

The company’s plans were revealed by Rohit Suri, MD, Jaguar Land Rover India during an interview with ET Auto. While the Discovery has traditionally been the utilitarian sibling of the Range Rover, things have taken a turn with this new third generation model. Gone are the boxy looks, it now gets a slightly rounded design in line with the Land Rover’s new design philosophy.

Under the skin is a new aluminium-infused platform, making the new Discovery lighter than its predecessor. It is also roomier than before, with space for seven occupants. Powering the Discovery would be the new Ingenium series of four-cylinder engines, with a six-cylinder unit throw in for those looking for better performance. Needless to say, driving modes and a four-wheel drive system with crawl function, hill descent and hill hold will be standard.

The launch of the new Discovery will be followed by the Range Rover Velar. It will rival the likes of the Mercedes-Benz GLS, BMW X5, Volvo XC90 and the Audi Q7. It will be imported as a completely built unit, with a price tag in the range of Rs 1 crore.
