Ten countries will take part in the first ASEAN Art camp being organised by union ministry of external affairs in Udaipur from September 21-29. The event will coincide with the 25th anniversary of ASEAN-India Dialogue Relations.
The Association of South East Asian Nations (ASEAN) comprises Indonesia, Singapore, Malaysia, Philippines, Brunei, Thailand, Cambodia, Myanmar, Vietnam and India.
The participating artists from the countries are Chan Sophorn (Cambodia), Iqro Akhmed Ibraham and Laily Subhki from Indonesia, Kanha Sikounnavong, Mohammad Shahrul Hisham B.Ahmed Tarzimi from Malaysia, Thet Naing from Myanmar, Naphaphong Kurae from Thailand and Nguyen Nghia Phuong from Vietnam. The camp will be based on a theme ‘Ocean of Opportunity’ that aptly reflects the close civilization and cultural links that India and South East Asia have enjoyed from over one millennia through maritime cooperation. This is perhaps for the first time that these artists from their respective countries will be working on a platform and painting on one theme along with the highly acclaimed artists of India.
The artist with a background in different styles of painting, contemporary, modern, traditional and impressionist, will interact and stay together to compose a work that will reflect the cross-cultural interaction. With an objective of creating awareness about ASEAN identity, each artist will compose a piece of art during their stay at the camp.
Eminent painters from different genres will mentor the artists. The event will also have a line of guest speakers who will have an interaction with the artists on various subjects. The artists participating in the camp will get an opportunity to experience an interdisciplinary exchange with performing artist like Dr. Anwesa Mahanta who will conduct a Lec-Dem on Sattriya and interact with the visual artists.
